Pokerroom.com is the best no-download alternative out there. Its graphics is nice and runs smoothly. The download version is even nicer. Pokerroom.com is the best choice for Mac and Linux users. The hand history has a good statistics feature where you can see the hourly win/loss rate and big bets won per hour.
Player volume increased heavily during 2004 and on peak hours there are more than 2500 real money cash game players and 5000+ tournament players. Off course, most of the traffic is at the Texas Hold’em games, probably more than 90% of Pokerroom.com players play Texas Hold’em. The competition is soft and the many of the games are packed with beginners. Even at the higher limits you can find really soft games but that is not as common as it used to be in mid-2004. Besides Texas Hold’em, Pokerroom has the standard variation of games, Omaha, both high and high-low and Seven-Card Stud, high and high-low.
Their most famous promotion is their $5 Million Guaranteed tournament. This is an online tournament with a $5000+$20 buy-in that will take place September 2. The final 45 players will play live in Barcelona, with a first place prize of at least $1 million.
This $5 million guaranteed is similar to another promotion they have ran for awhile, their "Grand Tournaments." These are $1,000 buy-in no-limit hold'em events. There is no entry fee to this tournament (Poker Room will not charge an extra fee in addition to the buy-in like most poker rooms do). For most tournaments that have a $1,000 buy-in, the poker room charges about a $60 entry.
The competition at PokerRoom is about average. Some of the games are fairly loose-passive, but there are also a lot of rocks on this site. No-limit games tend to be a little easier than the limit games on average.
The rake is at industry standard with 5% max $3. Pokerroom.com hosts many juicy free-rolls as promotions. There is also a frequent player program and the points can be transferred for cash or merchandise. Like all the other major sites Pokerroom.com has no financial problems whatsoever.
